Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I go when I arrive?
We'll have greeters ready to make it easy for you to find your way around. If you have children, they are welcomed to join you in worship or attend one of the age-level activities during the service. Our well-staffed infant and toddler nurseries are located in the hallways to the left and behind the worship center. Our G-Force Kids Ministry (which includes "Little G's" for ages 3-5, and G-Force Kids Worship in the stadium for ages kindergarten - 5th grade) meets in the back building. There is a "registration Table" inside the back right door to check your child in and a wrist band system for the parents to ensure safety.
Do you have a Sunday School program?
Though we are grateful for the countless lives that have been blessed through church Sunday School programs in the past, we believe that we can make an even greater impact in lives today through a strong emphasis on vital small group ministry. At present, we offer small group opportunities through our various ministry areas (servant evangelism, music, hospitality, etc.) and though short-term classes. Our vision, however, is much larger. we envision not just a church with a number of small groups, but a church of small groups. We believe life-change happens best in small groups, where vital relationship-building takes place. In the fall, we will have a major launch for small group ministries with an opportunity for every person to become involved in a group that fits him/her best.
What About My Kids?
Ministry to families is of vital importance to us, so we place a great emphasis on our children's ministry. We believe if you come check us out on time, your kids will make sure you come back! Providing a warm and caring place for your children is a top priority for us. In our infant and toddler nurseries you'll find a safe, loving and interactive supervision for each child from experienced childcare providers. How do I Join?
There are four steps to joining The Gathering. Why? Because we want to be sure that all members understand what membership in Christ's body really means . . . and we want to be sure you know the vision and direction of The Gathering specifically. (For more information on how to join, See "Class101" sub-link under link "MINISTRIES" located on our web site).
How are you related to other United Methodist Churches?
We are a fully connected United Methodist Church within the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. We feel greatly blessed to have this denominational support and connection. In fact, through our South Georgia Conference Office of New and Revitalized Congregational Development, The Gathering receives substantial financial and other support. Like a growing number of United Methodist Churches, we have a purpose-driven model for ministry (see "Purpose Driven" sub-link under link "WHO ARE WE" located on our web site).
Can I really wear jeans?
Yes. If you wear a coat and tie, we might guess that you are a guest. Most persons attending The Gathering do dress casually. Our real goal, however, is for every person to feel comfortable wearing whatever you feel most comfortable wearing to church (whether blue jeans, suit and tie, or anything in between!).
